Frequently Asked Questions
Should I Take The Online Tutorials Or Study Privately?
Both. Contrary to what some internet sites claim, there is no substitution for private instruction. That is the bad news. The good news is that taking online guitar lessons from someone with real expertise in teaching, will save you a lot of money in the longrun.
can take you a long way. In this case, the cost of private lessons can be significantly reduced. Much of your learning can be done online, with periodical check ups from a qualified instructor.
It is very hard to determine if someone has talent or not when first starting out. Some students exhibit talent early on. In other cases people discover their innate gifts over time. I have found that many instrumentalists have talent, but it has been blocked. A great instructor can help students discover their innate gifts more rapidly.
How Long Does It Take To Learn Guitar?
It varies considerably from person to person. My students are usually playing along with backing tracks within several weeks. Learning basic strumming patterns and chords can also be accomplished within 3-6 weeks. How quickly it takes to get there varies greatly from person to person.
Can Anyone Learn To Play Guitar?
With the exception of severely handicapped individuals, every student who followed the directions of my program and stuck with it has learned to play the guitar. How well they were be able to play, or how quickly they were able to improve their skills is another matter.
Can Guitar Lessons Help Me Improve?
Absolutely! However, it is the quality of the instructor combined with the quality of your effort that is important. Finding a high quality guitar teacher is not always easy and some trial and error may be necessary. We recommend that students seek recommendations from reputable sources.
What About Learning From Videos, Books and DVD's?

I have come to regard well-written books and electronic media as a helpful supplement to private instruction. (There are always exceptions to the rule. Generally, the more advanced a student is, the more they can gain from videos, books and DVD's
